With the hot crazy weather in Malaysia, I was wondering if tinting the house window would help in reducing the UV and IR heat from entering the house, does anyone have any experience in this and any contact for a reliable tinting company?

squidhee, my house is facing South, and my house is end lot, my house exposed windows are facing east, and yes, it is quite hot in the morning when the sun shines thru the dining hall windows (total of 4 windows) and upstairs living hall windows (total of 3 big windows). Master bedroom is hot, because my house come with a balcony and I have covered it with windows that come with dark tint, but the tint is not solar resistance, so it is unable to block off the heat, that makes my master bedroom quite hot.
Ah.. that bad huh? too bad you got your grilles install. otherwise you could just go grab some DIY tints from Ace Hardware. They have different sizes which could fit well into the smaller windows.
Anyway, tinting will not last long.. maybe 5 years, they may become worn out (dun come cheap too) Why not do some simple awning. Or maybe you prefer the aluminium louvres, looks nice... around RM20 per sq ft. Or go the natural way, plant some huge palm trees since u have the land.

wang, i tot if ur house facing north, ur house should facing afternoon or evening sun right?
Those house facing north one will facing morning sun in morning?
well, I had experince same thing too, never tot of install tinting at the beginning and feel quite hot after moved in. Initially, I decided to tint the firm outside the window and it will not last long according to vendor coz it should be stick inside not outside window. However, my contractor take down the grille of master bedroom, install the tinting and then fixed back the grille ... need more works for this. This is FYI ....

My house faces South, but evening sun or mornig sun depends of which part of the year, as our earth is not exactly straight up...ahhh...geography. Anyway, do you feel your house is cooler after installing the window tint?

yupe, agreed .... end of the year the evening sun is at the almost left side of house now. Yes, significant difference before and after, the brand is master kool, said from US, but not sure how true la. UV rejection 99% and IR 75%.

in terms of square ft price i am not sure, coz i quoted based on total. Master bedroom window and living hall sliding door cost rm700, back side of house not tinting. So far ok with it la, coz never compare those expensive one, but house quite cooling after tint compared to before, especially master bedroom. There are a lot of color to choose, and different color have different spec and price, depends on what spec we choose. My one is dark green.
