I am an ex surveyor of a well know pest control company.

Just would like to share some useful information..

Anti Termite Treatment includes:

Pre-construction treatment: Spray the pesticide onto the soil foundation before you construct the house. This is usually done by the developer when they build the house.

Post Construction Treatment:
i) Drilling method : To drill holes onto concrete flooring ( ground floor only ) and fill in the holes with pesticide. A terrace house with standard size ( 20x65 built up ) needs approximately 90-130 holes to be drilled along the perimeter of the house.

ii) Baiting method : To install bait station at the spot where you find active termites. Termites will feed on the bait and slowly you will get rid of them.

Things to consider before you decide which anti termite treatment is best for you:
i) Drilling method or Baiting method

- Drilling method is applicable when you want to have prevention or to solve the termite problem ( already infest your house )- If the method is chosen, you need to decide which chemical to be used. Usually we decide on the active ingredients (AI). You may find a lot of brands in the market, but the effective ones is usually more expensive. And the different AI also determine the effectiveness and how many holes to be drilled.

ii Baiting method is applicable only when you find active termites. The bait is effective against ONE type of termiteonly. This species of termite is widely found in Malaysia.
- You need to have active termite then only you can install termite bait. The bait does not attract termite to come. You must have active spot then only can bait them using the bait.
- Usually it takes 1-4 months to eliminate the whole colony and to solve the problem.

* Driling method is not 100% termite proof as there are many reasons such as earth movement, soil movement happen along the years.
But using an effective chemical and apply a correct quantity of chemical into each holes enhance the effectiveness.
* This goes for baiting method, the method helps to solve the existing spot. But you need to continuously monitor you house after the elimination process. As there are so many colonies underneath the earthground that are not visible. Termite can infest any houses at within 20-40 meter away from the location of their colony.

Anti Termite Treatment is like buying an INSURANCE for your house which easily cost you a couple of hundreds thousands.

How about red/fire ants? Alot outside my house and coming into my garden, what can I do?

I used the ant poison bought from the Chinese groceries shop. RM1 per packet. after 2 days no more ants.

Ya, I used those ant poison that has to be mixed with water and sprayed the whole compound and all died, but after a week or so, they are back again.

i used those like biscuits type as a bait. Those ants will bring the "biscuits" back to its nest and the whole colony will feed on it.

I think spraying the whole compound will kill what you see only.

To all the KU residents, I understand that KU provide us with termite treatment and have a certificate, stating that your house will be under warranty and free from termite attack for 5 years, and if termite attack your home, they will get rid of it for free, and one of the clause is if any renovation is done, it will be void.

I think the termite treatment that that have done is not that effective, 3 years from the treatment, my house is under termite attack already. It's the front door frame, which is wooden and has direct contact to the ground or tiles.

I think ex-plantation land is very prone to termite attack and KU is running at high risk, just becareful guys, and for those who are doing renovation (changing tiles at ground floor), it is advisable to do the drilling method from a reputable company.

Having said that, my house is still under warranty, now only 3 years, but I have done renovation (changed downstairs tiles and really regret I did not do the drilling method), but I didn't bother to call up the pest company that did the spraying, I think they will come and spray chemical to kill those at the door frame, and termite might just run to another location or neighbour's house.

I think the best solution is to use the Sentricon method to solve your problem now. I bet your neighbour will be very thantkful if you do that. Now even comes with protection plan which cost around RM500 per year for routine checkups of ry 3 months. Wonder if really worth it? Maybe good to have someone to monitor the infestation for another year huh?

Drilling method? Heard a lot of negative points about it from other people (who actually used this method). It is a cheap (compared to Sentricon) method with so-called 3-5 years warranty. But many complained that it is not effective as they experienced termite attacks even after 2 years of the treatment. It simply doesnt kill the termites but preventing them from entering your house via the ground.

Sentricon is good for your case cause your house is already been infected.

Anyway, I could be wrong. Better check with the pest control company. Appreciate if you could share your experience with us.

Hi ZXTEH, you are right, Sentricon is the best solution for my problem and I just installed it yesterday, I mean the pest control company, hopefully it will work and eliminate the whole colony, and my neightbour house should be safe as well. My unit is endlot, I installed 3 monitoring station, 2 at the side and 1 infront to check for future attack. The whole package cost me a bomb, but I guess that is the best solution at the moment.

Ya, Drilling methos is not that good as it will chase the termite to your neightbour's house and then they will do drilling and chase it back to your house and the whole thing just keep happening. As for the effectiveness, I think you are right, it is a living prove since my house got attacked.

Anyway, hope everything works well.

Cheers.

hi wang , belle here IR 1 resident, thanks for your sharing. May i know which KU you are from? your door frame so fast got termite attack?

Reply to This

Hi Belle, I am from Bayu, the termite treatment was done in 2006 by Paramount. Sound about right, after 3 years, the treatment should almost wear off, even though the warranty is 5 years, I didn't bother to call them up as they will just come and spray the door frame chasing the termites else where in the house.

I think the door frame been attacked for a while, just that they are inside, I can't see it, and only a bit of mud trail at the top, until last week I saw some dead ones and some live ones at one corner of my house.

Hello! My name is Victor. Nice to share a good information on Anti-Termites. So, do we need to do this on the new house before we move in?

Reply to This

Hi Victor, I assume you mean a new house in Indah Residence or any brand new house? Well, if the developer has done the treatment, should be sufficient, for now. Everything has a life span, maybe it will last for 3 yrs, or 5 yrs, no body knows, of maybe after 2 years your neighbour's house or a few houses down the road got attacked by termite and they opt for drilling method and pump chemical down the ground around their house, the chances are termite will go else where and your house will be at risk. If it is a brand new house and you ar not changing your ground floor tiles, then don't do damage to your lovely house before termite even come close. No worries!! But if you are changing your floor tiles, maybe can consider doing one more treatment before you put all new tiles, afterall, we don't know how good of a job did the developer do, they might hire someone to do it, then that pest control company will sub it to someone else and so on and so forth, at the end of the day, it will be a shitty job done.
